Introduction:
Composite Materials are rapidly replacing metal parts in automotive and aerospace structures. The analysis and design procedures of composite material structures are considerably more complex than those of their metallic counterparts. In order to achieve safe and reliable composite structural systems, individuals currently engaged in or planning involvement in the design of composite structures will, as a prerequisite, need a sound knowledge and firm grasp of the underlying principles of the mechanical response of composite materials. This course will equip participants with basic knowledge and understanding of the mechanics, part design and manufacturing aspects of composite materials.
Course Coverage:
Introduction of Composites
Mechanics of Composites
Mechanical Properties
Testing
Manufacturing Processes
Design & Analysis of Composite Parts
FEA of Composite Parts
Participant Profile:
Engineers, Designers, Engineering Analysts involved in design of mechanical systems having or not having exposure to composite materials are encouraged to participate. This course is very much beneficial for engineers and researchers from the field of automotive and aerospace industry. Students of final year mechanical and materials engineering departments from engineering universities may also participate.
Instructor Profile:
Mechanical Design Engineer having practical experience of design analysis and manufacturing of advanced composite materials for aerospace applications. He is also involved in research of design optimization of composite materials.
Methodology:
The course will be taught mainly through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on practice on computers. Manual calculations, computer aided modelling and simulation will be done rigorously.
Learning Outcome:
Participants will be able to understand the basic mechanics of advanced composite materials and practical level understanding of stress analysis and product design will also be developed. Participants will understand the process of Finite Element Analysis of composite laminates and evaluate results.
