Introduction:
Mould designing is a core activity in plastic products design & development. Parts used in household appliances to aerospace applications involve injection moulding process. This course will cover the nomenclature, design, basic analysis and simulations of moulds & components. Process of digital design and manufacturing will be introduced to enhance the speed and accuracy in design and manufacturing.
Course Coverage:
Basics of plastics
Mould construction and standard components
Parting line and parting surface
Shrinkage
Runner system and gate design
Flow patterns and simulation
Mould cooling
Ejection systems
Venting and Pockets
Design Practices
Participant Profile:
Engineers with 1-2 years experience of design and manufacture; Technicians and Associate Engineers with experience of injection mould design or manufacture are encouraged to apply.
Instructor Profile:
The Instructor has vast experience of plastic injection mould design and has been involved in design of moulds for automotive and consumer industry.
Methodology:
This course is delivered through lectures, multimedia presentations, videos and hands-on practice on modern CAD/CAM specific computers. Manual calculations, computer aided modelling and simulation will be performed.
Learning Outcome:
Participants will be able to design plastic injection moulds using standard engineering practices, perform critical calculations and work on software to design moulds and understand flow analysis using computer software.
