Design, Analysis and Manufacturing of Advanced Composite Materials

Introduction:
Composite Materials are rapidly replacing metal parts in automotive and aerospace structures. The analysis and design procedures of composite material structures are considerably more complex than those of their metallic counterparts. This is due, of course, to the anisotropic nature of typical laminated composite materials. In order to achieve safe and reliable composite structural systems, individuals involved with the design of composite structures will, as a prerequisite, need to have a sound knowledge and firm grasp of the underlying principles of the mechanical response of composite materials. This course aims to provide the basic knowledge and understanding of the mechanics of composite materials in order to permit their efficient use in design applications also covers manufacturing aspects of composite materials.

Course Coverage:

  • Introduction of Composite Materials
  • Mechanics of Composite Materials
  • Testing and Mechanical Properties of Composite Material
  • Manufacturing Processes for Composite Material
  • Design and Analysis of Composite Products
  • Finite Element Analysis of Composite Products
  • Participant Profile:
Engineers, Designers, Engineering Analysts involved in design of mechanical systems having or not having exposure to composite materials are encouraged to participate. This course is very much beneficial for engineers and researchers from the field of automotive and aerospace industry. Students of final year mechanical and materials engineering departments from engineering universities may also participate.

    Instructor Profile:
Mechanical Design Engineer having practical experience of design analysis and manufacturing of advanced composite materials for aerospace applications. He is also involved in research of design optimization of composite materials.

    Methodology:
The course will be taught mainly through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on practice on computers. Manual calculations, computer aided modeling and simulation will be done rigorously.

    Learning Outcome:
You will learn how to use composite materials and discover the basic and advanced techniques to turn your ideas into successful products. Participants will be able to understand basic mechanics of advanced composite materials. Practical level understanding of Stress analysis and Design of products in which composite materials are used will also be developed. Participants will learn how to perform Finite Element Analysis of composite laminates and results evaluation.
